BEST CEREAL TREAT RECIPE | Rice Krispie, Fruity Pebbles, or Cocoa Pebbles
I have the hands down, BEST, recipe for cereal bars! You can make this recipe with any cereal of choice. It’s especially good with Rice Krispie’s, Fruity Pebbles and Cocoa Pebbles. Did you know that all three of those cereals are TOP 9 FREE?! Yes!
TOP 9 FREE
In order to make the entire recipe TOP 9 FREE, you would just need to substitute the butter with Earth Balance or another allergy friendly butter spread.
Marshmallows are already TOP 9 FREE, but if you are looking for vegan, gluten free and kosher, you may want to select Dandies Brand. We are only peanut and shellfish free for my son, and so we use Kraft brand marshmallows.
JUST THREE INGREDIENTS
Even better yet, is that this is just a three ingredient recipe. My kids love to help stir the ingredients and flatten them into the pan. So not only is it easy on the budget, it’s also a fun activity for the kids.
YUMMY GOOEY MARSHMALLOW GOODNESS
Why is this recipe the best? Well, I’m picky about my cereal bar treats. They can’t be too dry, they have to have a lot of yummy marshmallow gooeyness. And that alone is why these are the best! They remind me of the ones that I would save up my extra spending cash as a child, and buy from the lunch lady in the school cafeteria!
My best tip to you, is once you have the cereal mixed and ready to “spread” out in the baking dish, spray our hands with some cooking spray or vegetable oil to avoid your hands sticking to the bars.
Fruity Rainbow Cereal Treats
- 3/4 C salted butter
- 2 10 oz bags of mini marshmallows, divided
- 9 C Rice Krispie, Fruity Pebbles, or Cocoa Pebbles Cereal
In a large deep pot, heat the butter on medium heat, just until melted. Set aside 2 full cups of mini mallows. Add the remainder of the marshmallows into the pot with the melted butter, continue to heat the butter and marshmallows stirring until melted smooth. Remove the butter marshmallow mixture from heat. Measure out 9 cups of cereal and place in a large mixing bowl. Pour butter marshmallow mixture into cereal and gently start to fold together. When about half way combined, add the 2 cups of mini marshmallows that were set aside, and continue to folding until well combined. Oil a 9×13 baking dish lightly, and then pour cereal mixture into baking dish. Add oil to hands and then press the cereal evenly in baking dish. Let cool and set for about 45-60 minutes before cutting bars. Keep in airtight container for 2-3 days.
