Cereal Treat Fun
We made the Fruity Rainbow Cereal Treats this past weekend, and they were a huge hit! So of course my whole family is now obsessed with all cereal treats and having fun trying all the different combinations we can think of.
Top 9 Free, Except Coconut Oil
Yesterday we made them using Cocoa Pebbles cereal, which his Top 9 Free, with the exception of coconut oil.
As I’ve mentioned before, marshmallows are Top 9 Free and gluten free, however, if you are concerned about cross-contamination, you can also try Dandies brand. Dandies are vegan and kosher.
Vegan, Dairy-Free Butter Substitute
For a butter substitute, I love to use Earth Balance. If you are not using a salted butter, you can just add 1 teaspoon to the butter while melting it in the pot.
Quick, Easy & Fun!
These are such a fun, quick, easy treat that the whole family can enjoy! Don’t get me wrong I love my cookies and other desserts, but you can’t beat whipping up something in 5 minutes and impressing all the kids!
Plus, you will notice the more you follow my blog that I don’t have a ton of healthy recipes, most of them are kid related and fun treats. That’s because as we have gone through the years I have noticed that my food allergy kiddo seeks out the fun! Why? Because often times at youth activities, family functions, and out around town or on vacation, the fun stuff is what he misses out on due to his food allergy. So we make up for that as much as possible at home!
More Treats Coming Soon…
As mentioned in my recent post for our Fruity Rainbow Cereal Treats, you can make these with nearly any cereal you choose! It’s very forgiving that way! So have fun with it, and make it yours! I have an oldie but goodie that I make for our campouts as well, that I will be sharing soon. I’ll give you a hint, it has one of my favorite breakfast cereals as an ingredient – can you guess in the comments which cereal that is?!
Cocoa Pebbles Treats
- 3/4 C salted butter
- 2 10 oz bags of mini marshmallows, divided
- 9 C Cocoa Pebbles cereal (or Rice Krispies, or Fruity Pebbles)
In a large deep pot, heat the butter on medium heat, just until melted. Set aside 2 full cups of mini mallows. Add the remainder of the marshmallows into the pot with the melted butter, continue to heat the butter and marshmallows stirring until melted smooth. Remove the butter marshmallow mixture from heat. Measure out 9 cups of cereal and place in a large mixing bowl. Pour butter marshmallow mixture into cereal and gently start to fold together. When about half way combined, add the 2 cups of mini marshmallows that were set aside, and continue to folding until well combined. Oil a 9×13 baking dish lightly, and then pour cereal mixture into baking dish. Add oil to hands and then press the cereal evenly in baking dish. Let cool and set for about 45-60 minutes before cutting bars. Keep in airtight container for 2-3 days.
