Happy Pi Day 2021! I’ve got a great go-to recipe for you that is not only allergy friendly… it’s quick, easy, semi-homemade and absolutely scrumptious! Plus, it’s an extra reason to celebrate everyone’s favorite number … 3.14!

Allergy Friendly Substitutes | Make it Top 8 Free

This can easily be made using your favorite subs, and go-to allergy friendly products.

For the crust we used MI-DEL brand top 8 free pre-made pie crust. They have three amazing flavors: graham, ginger snap, and chocolate.

The possibilities are endless mixing and matching ice cream options, pie crust flavors, and toppings!

Next up would be the ice cream. This can be a sticky one for food allergy friends. Be sure to always read every label, every time! This is a food type we have been surprised to find our allergen in time and time again. We have found peanut in the ingredients (not may contain), in even PLAIN chocolate ice cream. One brand that’s been good for us is Blue Bell, Breyer and Dreyer’s ice creams.

If you are looking for a vegan or other allergy friendly option, So Delicious has options for that as well as for whipped topping!

  • 5 C Ice Cream So Delicious, Banana Nice Cream or other friendly option
  • 2 C Whipped Cream So Delicious or other friendly option
  • 6 Chocolate Sandwich Cookies*, crushed WalMart brand gluten free, Kinnikinnick, or other friendly option

Instructions

  1. This is such a fun recipe! You can mix and match your own favorite flavors to suit your palate. Just grab your favorite allergy friendly pre-made crust, ice cream, whipped cream, and ice cream toppings!

  2. For the one pictured here we used chocolate crust, chocolate ice cream, whipped cream, crushed sandwich cookies and chocolate syrup. Sprinkles, candies, and other toppings could easily be added to the crushed cookies or even replace them altogether!

  3. First, set your ice cream out on the counter to thaw for about 30 minutes. Then, scoop it into the pie crust, and using a spatula spread it out evenly. Next, place the ice cream filled pie crust back into the freezer to set-up.

  4. Let freeze for 3-4 hours. Then, working quickly, you will remove the pie, adding whipped cream and toppings.

  5. Then serve! If you need you can return to the freezer for about 15-20 minutes after topping to freeze up a little more firmly if it has gotten too warm while decorating with toppings.
