My kids love playing with playdough. All the way from my youngest to my oldest, heck even I love playing with playdough!

I have a couple other recipes on my site for homemade playdough including a Pumpkin Playdough, so how fitting that for Valentine’s Day coming up, I share my Chocolate Playdough recipe with you.
Originally, this recipe was used with all-purpose flour, and I will share that below, in addition to my gluten free playdough that I altered to become chocolate as well!

When I first made this years ago, I packaged it up into little condiment containers with lids, from Dollar Tree, and handed them out at a Valentine’s party for our homeschool group. It seriously smells like chocolate sheet cake and brownies!
Whenever I make this, the kids always ask if they can eat it because the smell is so enticing. I just tell them they could but it may not taste as good as it smells – ha!

Add the water in a medium sized pot, and turn heat to medium high to bring water to a light boil. Once boiling, reduce heat to medium low and add the baking soda. Be careful as this will cause the hot water and soda to bubble up quite a bit. Give it a good stir, and then add your cornstarch and cocoa powder. Stirring consistently for a few minutes just until the dough begins to form and pull away from the sides of the pan. Turn out onto a clean surface and let cool slightly, before kneading the dough. Let cool down before handing to children to play with. Can store in an airtight container.
